There are not many books specifically about St Nicholas village, apart from Anneli Jones's "The Changing Face of St Nicholas-at-Wade" (a limited edition published privately in 1977: an updated version is under consideration), Richard Parker's "The Schools of St Nicholas-at-Wade, 1640-1957" (pub. Millbank 1957), the Parish Council's 1990 "A Parish History of St Nicholas-at-Wade and Sarre" (written & researched by John Land, drawings by David Clarke), Mikal Cole's "Alpha and Better: A Modern History of St Nicholas at Wade" (2007), and an unbelievably expensive reprint of Hasted's History of St. Nicholas at Wade (£146.99 for 24 pages, anyone?).
Some older guides to Thanet do however contain lively descriptions of St Nicholas, as does A Victorian Cyclist: Rambling Through Kent in 1886. There is good historical detail in Thanet to Tasmania (the story of a family who emigrated from Shuart Farm to Van Diemen's Land), and the village is briefly mentioned in many books, although not by name in the biography of the village blacksmith, who became a missionary to the cannibals in New Zealand (see the Famous Residents of St Nicholas-at-Wade page). There are also a few books about Birchington (see below) which may be of interest; Walker's "Ville of Birchington" in particular mentions "St Nicholas at Wode" (or "St Nicholas at Wood"), a local church which no longer exists, and whose name is apparently quite unconnected with "St Nicholas at Wade"!
There are three main books about Birchington's history, as described below. In addition to these, some other books have been published comparatively recently about more specific aspects of the village, e.g. its role during World War II. Many of these books are quite rare, but even if listed as 'unobtainable' on Amazon UK, you may well be able to find them via AbeBooks).
